Sometimes, there are girls.
And sometimes, there are cats.
Sometimes, there are girls who are cats.
Sometimes, these cats (who are girls) are sad.
Sometimes, these sad-girl cats like to do sad-girl cat things.
Sometimes, “sad cat girl things” include crying and staring.
Sometimes, crying and staring is what girls, both cats and sad, like to do.
Sometimes is always.

Each morning as she left for work, the cat jumped up on its perch and watched her lock the door. She’d turn to go down the stairs, and catch the cat’s pathetic stare. “Hello!” she would whisper and trace her finger over the glass. Instead of chasing her finger, the cat would always stare straight into her eyes.
She studied the cat’s face closely, looking for truth behind whiskers. What did the cat want? What was it trying to tell her? And, more often than not, she believed the cat wanted her to stay. Because if she left, it would be her last day. And she had been warned by the cat.
Every day, the wondered if the cat’s message would come true. And each night, she put her head to pillow and remembered that she was not special enough to receive messages from cats and that surely, she would wake up tomorrow with the same pain in her back.
